It's taken over 10 years to happen, but...

Got the guts

As most of you probably know by now, Colin and myself are now members of progressive death metal greats, Gorguts. Both of us were long-time fans of this band before joining, and to have a chance to perform and collaborate creatively with them has been a true joy. Here is a link to a demo montage of some of the various tunes we've written so far. These are just instrumental at this time, vocals/lyrics are still being composed. More songs are being worked on and we hope to get into the studio to record the new album sometime this Fall. In the meantime, they'll be a few upcoming performances: May 25 @ Great Scott's Allston, MA / May 26 @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn, NY / May 27 @ Kung Fu Necktie Philadelphia, PA / May 28 @ Sonar Baltimore, MD as part of Maryland Deathfest. The first 3 shows will also feature Portal, Krallice, and Bloody Panda. Can not wait.

In Dysrhythmia news, the European dates are almost finalized. It sure will be interesting to see how this goes for us. We're already getting the ipods loaded with various comedy/prank call records to amuse ourselves with on the van rides. Europe, you'll also get a sneak peak at some of the new material we've been writing, as we plan to debut a few of these tunes on this tour. The direction so far feels slightly more melodic than any of the previous records, while still retaining our "dys-rhythmic-ness", if you will. I'm also imposing a new rule on myself to not write every single song in a completely different tuning.

Zevious

For those that are unaware, our drummer Jeff Eber has a fantastic band called Zevious that he started back in 2006 with his cousin, guitarist Mike Eber, along with friend and bassist Johnny DeBlase. Their newest record 'After the Air Raid' is out now on Cuneiform Records. It takes the guitar-bass-drums jazz trio set up to dark and dissonant places. They'll also be touring the East coast/Midwest and into Canada this March. Check out the dates below and see them live if you can! You will not be disappointed.

If you live in the NYC-area (or even if you don't), you should be aware of the amazing calender of events Toby Driver (Kayo Dot) has curated for the month of February for John Zorn's club, The Stone. The schedule of events can be viewed here. I'll be doing a special solo guitar set on Feb 16th @ 8pm, playing selections from my last solo release, as well as new brand material and some other surprises. Hope to see you there.

Sound the Alarm

Alarm Magazine has included my solo album 'Songs for the Disappeared' in their 50 Unheralded Albums from 2009 list. 'Psychic Maps' gets an honorable mention as well. Check it out here

Winter Hibernation

Dysrhythmia will be taking a break from live shows until Spring 2010, choosing to spend this time focusing on new material, as well as with our other various musical extensions (Gorguts, Behold... the Arctopus (with new drummer Weasel Walter), Krallice, Byla, Zevious, and K.H. (solo) are all also currently in writing mode). 2010 should prove to be an exciting and extremely productive year. In the meantime, Brooklynvegan.com did a write up (with many photos) of our show last week @ The Charleston in Brooklyn. During our set a (very drunken) female walked "on stage" and decided to start playing soundwoman; turning the volume and eq knobs on Colin's amp up and down and more to her liking. It was quite bizarre.
